A plant of real character. Stout upright stems, with graceful divided leaves up to 90cm long. In June it produces yellow-green flowers, that can be easy to miss under dappled light against the foliage. But there is no mistaking the fruits, especially against the yellowing autumn leaves. The weird, soft, almost sausage-like pods, become even more intriguing when opened contain jet black seeds covered in a sticky mucilage.
